Amurco was born in 2010 in the spirited seaside town of Blackpool. Inspired by the town’s iconic Illuminations and the vibrant energy of the “Golden Mile,” we set out with a simple but ambitious mission: to shine a light on the world’s best up-and-coming musical talent.
Founded by music entrepreneur Howard Murphy – the visionary behind global music powerhouses Ostereo and Greatest Music Artists – Amurco was built on an “artist-first” philosophy. Howard’s track record of identifying global trends (culminating in the recent acquisition of Ostereo by the $1bn-valued Create Music Group) ensured that Amurco was rooted in industry-leading expertise from day one.
What started in a moderate seaside town quickly scaled into a global operation. Driven by a team of local talent with an uncompromising ear for great music, Amurco grew its catalogue to over 1,000 artists in just a few years.
As we expanded, so did our horizons. In 2018, we relocated our headquarters to the industrial and creative heart of the North: Manchester. This move allowed us to tap into a rapidly developing media landscape, further expanding our team and our goal of exposing raw musical talent to the world’s biggest stages.
Today, the Amurco catalogue is a force to be reckoned with. Our music doesn’t just sit on a shelf; it lives in the world’s most iconic spaces. From providing the sophisticated atmosphere for Ferrari showrooms to the familiar energy of McDonald’s, our in-store licensing reaches millions of listeners daily.
Our reach extends to the silver screen too, with Amurco tracks featured in major global productions like Justice League. In 2022, we took our next giant leap by opening our first US office, allowing us to create bespoke, in-house music that spans thousands of tracks across every imaginable genre.
While our reach is global, our heart remains local. We believe music should be a force for good. In 2014, we partnered with the Blackpool-based charity Streetlife to produce a fundraising single to support vulnerable young people and the homeless in our home community. Whether we are licensing a track for a Hollywood blockbuster or supporting a local grassroots initiative, we remain committed to using our platform to give back.
